Everybody wants a piece of Slack

April 13, 2017

They say that imitation if the greatest form of flattery. Even so, Butterfield and his team over at Slack could probably do with a little less of the charm. Still reeling from Microsoft’s recent announcement for “Teams”, Facebook announced late last week that they’ll be making their own version of Slack – dubbed “Workplace” – free to the public.

Facebook initially launched “Workplace” as a paid feature last year. The tool will let users use one-to-one and group voice and video calling, stream video, and chat. Workplace doesn’t have a robust administrative features, nor does it integrate with G-Suite (obviously), which may hurt corporate uptake in the long run.
