Say No to Smileys

August 29, 2017

We know you’re jsut trying to look friendly, but those smileys you keep adding into your emails?  They are making you look stupid.

“Our findings provide first-time evidence that, contrary to actual smiles, smileys do not increase perceptions of warmth and actually decrease perceptions of competence,” says Dr Ella Glikson from Ben-Gurion University. Is it better to come off a little cool? Or like an idiot? Probably the former 🙂 .

    hmm
I don’t know if I would agree completely.

at times a smiley helps in offsetting say a strong tone that is being expressed in the verbiage of an email. I find that while giving someone a scolding somewhat in the email, by then closing with a short positive expression and a smiley face, may suggest that while I know you screwed up, lets do it better next time.
